Lovebirds-N2Deep

We’ve all been big fans of Lovebirds aka Sebastian ‘Basti’ Döring’s releases and remixes here at Homegrown HQ since his first ep dropped on Winding Road back in 2007, and his ‘In The Shadow’ release later in the same year tore the roof off the Studenski Center when it was playing at our residency in Zagreb.

Basti is back with an absolute beast of an EP on Fred Everything’s fantastic Lazy Dayz imprint. He delivers three tracks of killer cuts with varying tempos. The lead track ‘N2Deep’ is classic Lovebirds, driving main room house, with a simple bassline and hypnotic keys. It’s the other two tracks that throw up the suprises with this release though… ‘Steelhorn’ being mid-tempo and sophisticated track, perfect for the warm up and ‘U Give Me’ which is a wicked melodic, funky disco number, one for the fans of Greg Wilson and Ilija Rudman.

Below is the official blurb…

“Lovebirds, aka Sebastian ‘Basti’ Döring from Hamburg, Germany, is big news right now. His releases for Winding Road, Freerange and Teardrop have catapulted him into the limelight as the one of the hottest names in underground house music. Having always selected the labels he releases his music on carefully, Basti has now chosen another massively respected imprint in Fred Everything’s Lazy Days Recordings.

Fred’s relationship with Lovebirds began after Vincenzo passed him ‘Gentle’, the first Lovebirds record to be released on Teardrop and one which is being touted my many as a future classic. The track became a staple in Fred’s set for over a year before the release saw the light of day and convinced him to work with Lovebirds on Lazy Days.

The result is a three track EP exploring different avenues of dance music. Title track ‘N2Deep’ is a driving, simple groover that has been doing damage in Fred’s sets and recent podcast. The B-side is new territory for Lazy Days; ‘Steelhorn’ is a beautiful mid-tempo track and is followed by the amazing down tempo disco of ‘U Give Me’.

In Basti’s own words, “The Lovebirds sound is like a blast from the past with house steroids packing serious production muscle. Listening to Lovebirds is like taking trip back to the 70s and 80s – but riding in a gleaming futuristic spaceship.”

Although the Lovebirds name has burst onto the scene relatively recently, Basti is no newcomer. As half of Knee Deep with Toddie Freese he DJed around the world and remixed the likes of Jamiroquai, Bob Sinclair, David Morales, Brandy and many others. In 2002, Knee Deep won the prestigious ‘Best Remixer’ category in the German Dance Awards, beating Timo Maas along the way.

Lovebirds first appeared on Trax Of Interest in 2000 but it wasn’t until 2008 that more widespread recognition was gained thanks to four EPs on Winding Road. The rest is history. Fans of Lovebirds include Tom Middleton, Danny Howells, Jimpster (who has released an EP and remixes on Freerange), Ben Watt (who is in regular contact and signed a track for a compilation) and of course Fred Everything. Basti and Vincenzo have also recently launched their own label Teardrop Records, which is destined to become an essential new addition to the house library. The label will feature a Fred Everything remix of the forthcoming Lovebirds and Vincenzo track M.U.S.I.C.”
